It's designed to protect the drivetrain when a problem is detected and is mostly a CRDi issue. It can be triggered by an auto trans fault too I think. The cost at least £575 and 2 hours labour. the best way to quickly check if you have a DPF is either have a look uner the car for a box with two pipes on or around it, or under the bonnet for a pressure sensor with two pipes leading down behind the engine. . 40 170 33 22 175 291 82 434
