So, my Mk7 2.4 Transit is proving to have an elusive problem that's beyond my ability to diagnose - so I would really appreciate some help! I threw the van on an OBD, as the engine light had come on. It was showing the code for the MAP sensor - so I put in a new one, hoping it was just a faulty one.
I seem to have a problem with my van, the battery light keeps staying on even though I just recently replaced the battery, does this mean I need a new alternator or is there other checks I can do first ? I have a multimeter van is Ford Transit Mk7 2.2 TDCI 85
Re: alternator wiring! by Timbo ยป Tue Oct 26, 2010 11:45 am. Connect the thin blue wire to earth with the ignition switched on and check that the battery warning light on the dash comes on. This will check the wiring and bulb. If the light comes on then connect the wire to the middle terminal of the alternator.

The alternator is, sadly, pretty stupid, it's the charging system that's 'smart'. 1997 Mk5 SWB 115 Minibus 70ps Di (Gone, but not forgotten!) 2004 Mk6 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.0 TDDi - Vantunered (Also gone) 2008 Mk7 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.2 TDCi - Also Vantunered.
The wiring diagram also provides step-by-step instructions to help you install the wiring safely and correctly. A Ford Transit alternator wiring diagram can be found in a repair manual or online. Once you have a copy of the diagram, inspect the existing wiring connections to make sure they're properly connected and functioning correctly.
