The are two major interactions that change the main game from the DLC. Automatron will trigger reoccurring random encounters with robots and special raiders from the DLC. The Nuka-World would DLC can drastically effect Commonwealth Settlements depending upon your choice in the DLC. Personally I find the Automatron DLC encounters annoying so I
1.Right click on the game. 2.Press the choice that says "Options". 3.Press the tab that says "Local Files". 4.Press the button that says "Verify the integrity of the cache". 5.When it finishes verify it again to fully verify all of the files. 6.When done open the game Launcher and press the button "Data". A quest will pop up for each DLC when you hit certain level thresholds. These thresholds should be considered a reasonable minimum level for you to do these DLCs. So, for example, Nuka-World's quest will pop up at level 30. The exception to this is Far Harbor, the quest for which pops up after you rescue Nick. Then save the game. Exit. Run the launcher again and check the DLC. Then run game and reload the save where you had the DLC off. This is the way to restart a mod. One other thing to try is to place the DLC files into the fallout3\data folder.
PC. In "The Pitt" DLC the player can collect 100 steel ingots and return them to a man named Everett. After turning in all 100 Everett says "Yup, guess you got every last one out there. You're one hell of a steeler, kid." The name 'steeler' is a common nickname for steel workers, but is also a reference to the NFL team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
